Rindge's catalogs listing specimens of Lepidoptera he collected in California, 1935-1940. His field notes describe collecting localities, routes taken and record specimens collected on many field trips to the American West, and to a lesser extent, the Midwest, the East, and Canada, 1948-1968. One field book describes a trip during which he collected specimens in Africa and prepared an extensive collection of African Lepidoptera for shipment to the American Museum of Natural History, 1970. In addition, Rindge's notes and detailed observations on the life history of Lepidoptera he collected in California, 1947-1948.

Eight of the ten specimens depicted were part of the Grote and Robinson Collection, 20,000 specimens of American and European Lepidoptera donated to the Museum by Robinson in 1870. The other two specimens were among the 4,000 specimens collected during Beutenmuller's Expedition to the Black Mountains from June to October 1912, financed by Samuel V. Hoffman.
